Why Creative Tech is the Future

Why Creative Tech is the Future

A Different POV on Brand Visuals from KittyKat Founder, Kathy Sheehy

Q: How do you define "creative tech"?

I get this question from investors, and I can practically see the gears turning in their heads as they try to figure it out. Let's break it down in a fun way. Imagine a Venn diagram where creativity and technology overlap – that sweet spot in the middle? That's creative tech!

Q: How did your journey in creative tech begin?

My journey started as a fashion stylist, where I quickly learned that having a brilliant-looking fashion spread in a magazine depended on the color-proof technician and printer. As a print designer, creating a great design was just half the battle. The other half? Making it real, just like I designed it to be. I remember those days trying to get the perfect colors or spot UV on a magazine or the right perforation on my packaging designs. My designs needed a technical wizard to come to life, and those wizards were my printing partners and color technicians.

Q: How did the challenges change with web design?

When I moved to web design, I could craft the most beautiful layouts, but the developers turned my static images into slick, interactive websites. It's like a peanut butter and jelly sandwich – creative and tech must go together for the best results. It takes two hands to clap. However, we both have very different DNA.

Q: What is KittyKat doing that's unique in creative tech?

Fast forward to today; at KittyKat, we're doing something pretty cool. We combine creativity with cutting-edge AI (Assisted Artificial Intelligence™ or A2i) to create jaw-dropping visuals. We work with AI engineers who help us fine-tune our models to ensure our visuals aren't just fast and fabulous.

Q: Why do brands love working with KittyKat?

Brands adore KittyKat because we are a bunch of creative geeks who love what we do. We aim to create visuals that are not only stunning but also practical for brands. We strive to empower in-house teams to be the creative directors, orchestrating the best brand strategies rather than design technicians producing visuals. We aim to remove the shallow work and let creatives be creatives. (see KittyKat’s Portfolio & Clients)

Q: How do you manage the dynamic between your creative and tech teams?

We might have a love-hate relationship with our tech team (who doesn't love a good debate?), but at the end of the day, we know we need each other to create something spectacular. And when we see the final product, all the hard work and occasional disagreements fade because we know we've nailed it.

Q: What is the most rewarding part of your job?

One of the best parts of our job is creating beautiful, on-brand visuals that creatives, marketers, and brand people respect and use. They look to us as peers because we get it—we've walked in their shoes.

Q: What's the core belief at KittyKat about the fusion of creativity and technology?

At KittyKat, we believe that when creativity and technology come together, they create something extraordinary. And that's what creative tech is all about – a little magic and a lot of fun.
